Professional standards and credentials

Medical practitioners and psychologists practising in South Africa are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Psychologists register with the Professional Board for Psychology; occupational therapists register with the Professional Board for Occupational Therapy, Medical Orthotics/Prosthetics and Arts Therapy.

Each discipline reports strictly within its own scope of practice. Where a matter needs findings from more than one discipline, it is assessed by more than one specialist rather than stretched beyond a single expert’s competence — which is the practical reason for having the majority of disciplines under one roof.

We have developed templates to ensure compliance with RAF requirements, and we have the administrative expertise and infrastructure to manage the workflow and the volumes of referrals we receive from the RAF and from plaintiff attorneys.

This describes our internal process. It is not a claim of accreditation by, or endorsement from, the Road Accident Fund.

An expert’s overriding duty is to the court. Our specialists provide independent opinion and will not adjust findings to suit an instructing party.

You do not have to take our word for any of this. The HPCSA maintains a public register, iRegister, where any practitioner’s registration status can be checked directly at hpcsa.co.za.

Concerns about the conduct of a registered practitioner may be raised with the HPCSA.
